Wash Away Your Woes – A guide to managing your washing throughout the week

The worst thing about returning home after a holiday is what feels like 50 loads of washing! I started my first load on the first day of the week, and with the help of my lovely Mum, finished on the last day!

Now that I am completely up to date (until my husband gets home from work that is), I am going to share some tips on how to keep on top of your washing!

  1. Start your new regime with empty baskets!
  2. Keep dirty clothes baskets handy in your room or the laundry to separate your lights from darks (you can do this as you change clothes to save sorting them later).
  3. Keep your dirty clothes baskets near where your family change clothes (hopefully this also encourages them to make their way into the basket rather than strewn across the floor).
  4. Ensure your clothes are turned right way out as they go into the dirty clothes baskets or into the washing machine.
  5. At the end of each day, once you have collected all of the dirty clothes, pop a load of washing on. If you have a quick wash cycle on your washing machine and your clothes aren’t super dirty, it might be a good idea to use this cycle to save time.
  6. Invest in a compact clothes airer that you can keep in your laundry. Mine has an arm to hang coathangers on which helps to dry shirts and tops, and makes them easier to iron.
  7. Before you go to bed, spend 10 minutes hanging the clothes out onto the airer It also helps, if you have a large pile of socks and undies, to pop them into the dryer.
  8. The next evening, fold the clothes and put them away into their drawers.
  9. Collect the ironing neatly into a washing basket to complete at the end of the week or when you have some free time.
  10. Repeat!

If you can get into a good washing routine during the week, it saves time on the weekend and prevents your house from looking like a laundromat as the cooler weather starts approaching.
